All the Types of Coffee served in Portugal [PT & EN subs]
There are so many types of coffee served in Portuguese coffee shops, that even natives get confused sometimes, let alone foreigners.
In this video, we will demystify the whole thing. Mr Jorge, who has worked in the sector for over 40 years, is going to help us understand what are the types of coffee served in Portugal and how strong each one is.
Already living in Portugal? Which one is your favorite?
Enjoy!

Obrigada Ossama ๐
Hello!!! #dr_iyare cured I and my friend from herpes virus..

Posso fazer uma pergunta?ย O Srย Jorge disse (7:58) “onde a gente faz”. Jรก deparei-me com esta forma significando “we”ย mas na forma singular, portanto “where we make..”. A minha pergunta รฉ porquรช? Alguรฉm podia explicar-me por que razรฃo nรฃo diz apenas “nรณs fazemos”?ย ย Daria uma nuanca diferente? ย
@Rachel obrigada e igualmente ๐ค
Diverti-me muito- I very much enjoyed the coffee demonstration- thank you!
Bom vรญdeo! Bom trabalho! Venham mais vรญdeos!

Can you please let me know what a straight black cup of coffee is called? Is it bica/expresso?
Yes for the Portuguese Bica/expresso is the normal black cup of coffee, but thatโs the small cup – very strong. But in case for you a normal straight black cup of coffee is something bigger and a little more diluted, then make sure to ask for the abatanado or abatanado cheio ๐๐ฝ
Hi Carla, Iโm learning Portuguese and am a native Spanish speaker. I find it easier to understand some speakers and others Iโm just lost. I very much understand both of you on this video and was wondering if you could share which region you the gentlemen are. Iโm curious if I am finding certain regions to understand easier. Thanks.
Olรก, N Maiso ๐๐ฝ Iโm not sure where sr. Jorge is from but Iโd say heโs from the Grande Lisboa area and so am I. Thatโs probably the accent youโve been exposed to before and therefore easier for you to understand ๐๐ฝ Also, itโs not just about the accent but how clearly some people pronounce their words and obviously the speed in which they speak will also make a difference.
Gosto de video de cafe ๐
what town is this ? ๐
Sintra
Galรฃo is my favorite! โค
O cafรฉ americano nรฃo existe nos cafรฉs portugueses, sรณ abatanado.
I am still learning all of these ๐
Donโt worry, the Portuguese themselves are still learning them ๐
I wish the subtitles werenโt so big blocking the view
Weโll take that into consideration for future videos. Thank you.
Hands down, the most awesome videos/Portuguese lessons online! Your videos make me very, very happy! ๐
And you comment made my day – thank you ๐ค
I have listened to this three times so far as we will be in the north for a month soon. Thank goodness for slow playback to help me pronounce what we will try and order :). What is a macchiato called and can I shorten descafeinado to decaf some how or just learn the whole word? It sounded like he was saying descaf? Obrigada, this is super helpfulโ๏ธโ๏ธ๐
Macchiato in Portuguese is cafรฉ pingado. And Iโm afraid we say the who word for decaf: descafeinado.
So phonetically you will ask for: ca-FEH peenโGAH-doo dโsh-ca-fay-NAH-doo ๐
Hope you have a lovely time in Portugal!
@Portuguese With Carla Muito obrigada Carla! So sweet of you to phonetically spell it out for me! Thatโs really kind! And itโs fine to have the whole word, this way I get more courage to have to say the whole order ๐ซฃ๐ช. I thought macchiato was pingado but wasnโt sure so thank you for setting me straight! We will be cycling Portugal for a month and certainly will be asking for coffees everywhere!
@amanda Tkids wow your trup to Portugal sounds like itโs going to be an exciting one! ๐ค have fun and enjoy your pingados!
@Portuguese With Carla Obrigada Carla! With your help and guidance, I may actually get what I will be ordering everywhere:)
Obrigada pelo esse vรญdeo interessante, Carla! ๐
De nada, Sabrina. Tens razรฃo, eu tambรฉm ๐
Cannot believe how many different coffees there are in Portugal! The video was very fun! Need more explanation on the differences between each one ๐
